Sparrows in Albuquerque NM

Sparrows are one of the most commonly seen birds throughout the nation. These small brown and blackbirds have short tails and small but powerful beaks. Sparrows are especially attracted to man-made structures due to the amount of shelter and food available to them in larger buildings.

Sparrow Habitat

Like other birds their size, sparrows tend to nest in places like eaves, windowsills, and even inside the home. They like to socialize with other sparrows and can congregate in flocks. Their nests are often made of twigs, garbage, and other debris. Some of the most troubling places they’ve been known to nest are air conditioning and HVAC units, inside of vents, and even attics. Because of this, their nests can be destructive to homes and even cause a fire hazard.

The Dangers of Sparrows

As mentioned previously, sparrows have a habit of nesting inside and outside of properties. Their strong beaks have also been known to create small holes in the wood when building nests. As with all birds, their droppings can be unsightly and hazardous, especially when sparrows congregate in large numbers. Not to mention sparrows are also known to carry ticks, mites, and other parasites that can be transferred to humans.

Sparrow Control Measures & Prevention

Controlling, excluding, and preventing birds requires professional help. While one or two birds near your home are no cause for concern, nesting birds on your roof can become dangerous and cause structural damage. Bird droppings aren’t only unsightly, they carry a number of diseases as well. A professional pest control expert can work to exclude birds from deeming your home a suitable place to nest by applying deterrents or installing netting.

Sparrow prevention and removal is no job for amateurs. If birds on or near your property are causing damage or getting out of hand, it’s time to call in a professional.
