The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed deceptive advertising charges against two marketing companies for allegedly failing to support their claims that their products could prevent and eliminate infestations using natural ingredients.
RMB Group, LLC has agreed to settle with the FTC on their “Rest Easy” bed bug products. The FTC is beginning litigation against Cedarcide Industries, Inc. and others, for their “Best Yet!” bed bug and head lice treatments.
Bed bugs, in particular, are a growing problem throughout the United States, including New Mexico. They are small, flat, reddish-brown parasitic insects that feed on the blood of people and animals while they sleep. Bedbugs generally hide during the day in places such as the mattress seams, box springs, bed frames, headborads, dresser tables, inside cracks or crevices, or in or on objects near a bed.
The Environmental Protection Agency considers bed bugs a “public health pest.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that bed bugs are not knows to spread disease, but can cause itching and loss of sleep. Bites can cause a mild to severe allergic reaction.
